How hard is it to remove the mirror skull caps? From what I can tell from parts catalogs, it looks like they just pop off, has anyone done this? Thinking of replacing the painted ones with the Chrome package caps. Thanks in advance!

 

I know if you are not careful, you could break the clips that hold it in place.

On my 2004 mirrors, there are 4 or 5 clips that pop into place. I had to move the mirror around to see them and then used a screw driver to push the end of the clip down to unlock it.

I would think that the 2008 mirrors are similar, but I am not 100% sure.

 

Not sure about the super duty's but on the F150 OEM towing mirrors the skull cap is held on by a few small nuts, you have to remove the glass to get to them.
