How much would you discount a Factory Buy Back?
How much would you discount a Factory Buy Back?
Hey all - test drove a 2004 F-250 Diesel 4X4, crew cab, XLT today. It has 58K miles on it and it's in very, very good shape. Now, it is a Factory Buy Back and the original problem was a bad Check Engine Indicator. Ford states they replaced the wiring harness and the truck is good to go.
If I use KBB as my starting point, what's a good amount to discount from there? 3K? 5K? Obviously the back back will be clearly noted on the car fax report, which means when I ever go to sell the truck, I would imagine I'd have a hell of time.
Thoughts?
One last thing, in the rear wheel well on the frame, I see some drill holes where something was mounted and then removed? Thoughts? Air bags maybe? Was it lifted?
Do these holes jeapordize the integrity of the frame in any way? I will be towing, and towing a very heavy trailer?
Thanks!

I always thought that when Ford bought back vehicles, they were destroyed. I would think that it would hurt the value tremendously. As far as the holes in the frame go, I would just ask them if the truck had been lifted. Maybe some pictures of these holes would help us determine what they were drilled there for.

What happens is this. Ford buys the vehicle back. The dealer that process' the buy back does a Pre-ReAcquired Vehicle inspection of the condition of the vehicle. Of course the reason for the buy back is known at that time.
The buy back vehicle is then arranged to be transport to a regional Ford dealership that is part of the ReAcquired Vehicle program. At this regional dealership, they will proceed to repair the vehicle and then it will usually be sent to an auto auction where Ford runs it through the auction for sale.
Hi guys havent been on here in awhile. I bought a 04 f350 PSD with 73000 miles on it last fall and ive got 83000 on her now and couldnt be happier. The guy who owned it before me toasted the motor and just complained about everything the salesman who i bought the truck from says. So ford put a new 6.0 in her and i havent had a problem. Since its a new motor I plan on keeping this truck a long time so im not really concerned with reselling it. It's a ext cab long bed lariat and when i bought it, it was blue booked at $24,000, they had it on sale for $18000 and i ended up driving it home for $16000 and it came with a 1 year 12000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. So with my expeirence if you can get a good deal, go for it, especially if it was only a check engine light.
Run don't walk away from that truck.
Get an Oasis report on that VIN. My bet, it was ERG, Turbo, Head Gasket, Studs, oil leaks, the list goes on and on. If that Oasis report says other wise please post it here. Look on the door and see when it was made. If it says 03, continue to back away.
Ford bought back around 500 04's due to what they called "catastrophic engine failure" Ford doesn't buy back trucks based on a wiring harness. C'mon. Who ever told you this is trying to dump a truck on you. The truck should be in good shape, it spent most of it's time in the garage.
Find an 06-07.
It doesn't matter if the truck is good to go now, it has a flagged VIN number and the resell on that truck is little to nothing. IF you buy that truck make them give you the 200K mile warranty for FREE.

Each buy back has a specific sticker on the window stating the problem and what Ford did to fix the problem. Otherwise, I wouldn't have believed it myself.
Anyway, I think I have my answer. Screw this truck (no pun intended). After more research, I'm going for the '05 and up anyway, more fifth wheel tow capacity!!
Thanks all - I knew I came to the write place for questions.
I completely agree.

I am just crossing my fingers on my 06, I run fully stock and it tows our 5er like a shadow. (10K)
The salesman said some people are just full of **** and lie so they don't have to make any more payments and get out of their loans???
Who knows!!
I thought you were tuned?
I went back to full stock back a few months back...no more tunning for me.
Just didn't want to chance it. Even with the Street Tune.
