looking to buy

Hi Guys, I have decided to upgrade from an F-150 to the 250!! super excited but have a few questions before taking the plunge... a little about the truck I am looking at, it's an 01 F-250, black crew cab lariat, with the 7.3. I have heard these are really good long lasting engines, but am making sure I'm making a sound investment, the last thing I need is something going out... It has 180,000 miles, with all original drivetrain, how many miles can I honestly expect this thing to last? also is the tranny going to be good to me for a long time? I plan on using it to pull loads of utility trailers from missouri to wisconsin about once a month, along with it being my daily driver. I test drove it and was very impressed, it is super clean. any suggestions would be great! Thanks

I've never owned a SD, but from what I know/heard you can get 300,000 out of the engine with proper maintinence. Not sure about the driveline, how was it used before you?

If the transmission is original and it has towed anything in its life, that transmission is probably on its way out. Drive it again and lay on it when getting on the highway. Betcha it will slam into O/D at about 70 MPH.
Not trying to scare you, but this is just the average life of a 4R100. Besides the transmission, as long as the truck has been maintained it should be ready to go for a long long time.
