Diesel Leak

1999 F250 7.3L Powerstroke

I went out this morning cranked up the truck to get the heat going. I walked back inside for a total of 5-6 minutes MAX. When i came back there was a BIG puddle of diesel under the engine. It was kinda closer to the passanger side but pretty close to direct cent under the motor.

The leak was still pouring out, and didnt stop till i turned the truck off.

what do i need to check.

I had the same issue on my 99 f-250. the water separator has little o-rings in it that don't like this new kinda of diesel. The fuel eats away the o-rings and voila, bad leak... it can also make your truck run like crap from losing prime. really quick google search popped up with this http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/...-valve-209901/

really easy to fix.. three screws, pop out the old o-rings, pop the new ones in.

Fuel bowl drain 0 rings. $2 in parts, 30 mins if that to do it yourself. Screws are a pain in the *** to get at though.

alright guys, i think this is the problem. i went out and took the little plastic cover that says 7.3L on it and the water separator was under there. It wouldnt leak imediately after turning it on but after about 2-3 minutes it would start pouring out.

Yea, Zaairman is right. Easy fix, I replaced my @ 50+ bucks before I knew that you could rebuild it. I heard that if you need parts for the 7.3l go to international, they don't have the mark up on price. Good luck

man i cant seem to track this O-ring down. Discount doesnt sell them they only have the whole separator. and its an order only part

I cant find the parts at autozone either. I was hoping to get this fixed today. Is that just not gonna happen?

Yea I feel your pain! Took me 2 days to find. Is it coming out of the yellow handled bleeder valve?

No take off the separator and dis-assimble then go to autozone and have them pull out their "O" ring sizing Kit! You may end up going to ford or international

You may want to purchase some di-electric silicone grease for spark plugs. That will help is seat and seal better!

Nobody will have O rings that will work, they will be the right diameter but not thick enough.

As Zaairman pointed out they are not a standard size. You may be able to match an ORB oring to the OD, but it won't match the ID. They also need to be rated for diesel fuel and high temps. Not all o-rings meet this spec. Viton is the most common compound that is used for this application. If you search ebay for viton orings you'll get a ton of auctions selling the 2 you need.

Zaairman, it really took you 30min to change them out? I think it took me 5 to do it on one of our service trucks along side the road. Stop for a beer or 6 in there?

It was 20* outside, in a parking lot, and my bumper was icy.
