5.4 In a 250
I plow with my 08' F250 5.4. Run 850# up front and 2500 in back, salt, to start the season. The acceleration requires 3,000 plus rpms whereas in my 06' Dakota, V8, I'm moving in the 2-3 rpm range. So, as long as you don't mind working the motor harder, the power is there. But, only above 3,000 for acceleration. I would actually prefer a lower gear ratio than 3:73. And, I get 7.6 MPG

I traded my 2001 F-250, 4X4, V-10, 3.73 gears for a 2 wheel drive 2001 F-150 with a 5.4
I drove a couple 5.4 superduties before I bought mine and the V-10 and the diesel are the only way to go, I drove a 3 valve V-10 and man that's a good motor and for $600 its worth every penny
the 5.4 now has a supercharger

I just got a 5.4 250 not to long ago, sank my 150 so i had to get another truck. its a gas sucker, cant even light up the tires on dry street. It looks good and the room is awesome. I dont tow much more than a 10 ft trailer, but i would have to bet its not to great in that department. And im the kinda person that gets the power packages (cause you never know when you need it), and i regret not gettin the diesel, because you never know when your gonna need it.

Finding a V10 around here is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. For whatever reasons, the dealers never have them. One local dealer has something like 10 F250 crew cab shortbeds left and are just about giving them away, they are all 5.4's
Mileage
For all you f250 5.4 owners. Can you please tell me how much gas mileage you are getting with the 5.4 in a F250??? I am considering getting a 08 F250 4x4 with the 5.4. I rarely tow anything other than a 4 wheeler trailer or small tractor. I just want the body style and 4x4 option. I can't justify spending the extra on the diesel and diesel motor. Thanks
My 08' reg cab had the plow on it already at 0% for 5 years so, no brainer. But, you have to step on it, perhaps beat it to accelerate. Iv'e always preffered bigger motors, be-it bikes, cars or trucks just to avoid beating em. Although, there is no redline in the f250 so, maybe i'm not beating it ha? Nonetheless, it get's terrible gas milage at any rpm. 10 mpg if you are lucky. Mine says 7.6 when plowing, 1-2000 lbs in back. However, look around at the really older trucks on the road. They are all Fords! And I am not a Ford guy! I grew-up in a GMC deaership. But you can't refute the evidence. I always look at the older trucks on the road and behold, they are Fords, overwhelmingly. This, and the fact that the front end, with 800 lb plow, barely even goes down, is enough for my needs. I only hope that my truck, 20 some years down the road will catch someone's attention.
