Drawbacks to Smoke Stacks!

Where I work is at a college, and I've got a friend who actually is getting his degree there, and we are good friends. Anyhow, his parents gave him their '02 F350 dually Scab. Anyhow, he's done a few mods to it like a Edge tuner, CAI, stacks, etc. It's a pretty nice truck, and I've driven it a few times.

However to get to my point, I witnessed some screwheads putting a crumpled up McDonalds bag, a bottle of Pepsi on one side, and on the other side, the other screwhead rolled his papercup up and jammed it down the stack!

I went up to them, and asked them if what they did was funny.... and I said, I know who's truck that is, and I work here, and I'm reporting you. I then went over to the security office, and I backed the recording up from the outdoor cams to where you could clearly see them messing around.

When I told my friend, he was PISSED! I don't blame him!!

We tried to get everything out, but we are not sure if we did or if they did anything prior to me catching them. It was a pita to get the rolled up cup out of there, because it was tightly wedged around the inside of the stack. To get the bag out, I reached some of the way down and my whole arm was covered in soot, ruining my favorite blue dress shirt in the process.

My question is... how do we ensure nothing else is down in either of the pipes without taking them apart?

Well, all I had at the time was my little small Maglite penlight. But I was more on the side of asking what if they dropped rocks or coins down it...

Thing is, we don't know how long they've been screwing with it.

I'm really surprised my antennas haven't been screwed with yet.

I just don't get the logic of todays youth... why is it so cool to break other peoples belongings?! I guess they are just too damn envious that he's got something that a lot of people don't have.

Hmm... I'm gonna show him this thread tomorrow... I like your idea! I wonder if welding some small holed chicken wire would be good. Anything from deterring them.

would be hard to weld chicken wire maybe try expanded sheet metal, unless if you can get ahold of some thick stainless steel mesh

or rivet or screw chicken wire

Not sure on his but I've seen stacks that are two pieces. If his are like that he can unclamp them and clean them out that way.

His stacks should be several pieces that are BOLTED together using band clamps. If he's that worried about it, he should take the 30 mins to unbolt it all.

How bout a good beat down for the offenders. Flash light, lug wrench, fist, whatever works!

I don't get why people get a kick out of messing w/our trucks. Mine was stolen and recovered over a year ago and I'd still crush the ba$tard(s) that stole it given the chance.

Sorry. Had to vent for a moment. What about those flaps that open when running and close when shut off?

i think I'd beat the crap out some ***** bags that were shoving crap down my stacks. I'm assuming there straight cut miter stacks? If there flat cut then you can install flaps over the top.

Thanks fellas. We looked at, and sure enough it comes apart. He's going to come by my place this weekend and we are going to make sure nothing else is still trapped in there.

I got some steel window screen sitting in my garage, and I was thinking of cutting a nice size circle, and when we take the sections off, if we can wedge it between the section, and when we clamp it together again, it will hold the screen in place. This way if another idiot decides they are being Mr. Cool, they won't be able to loiter it too bad. Just stinks that we'd have to take it apart again to get the garbage out of it.

I mentioned to him, since he's running a tuner, that he ought to get an Pyrometer, and now I got him stirred into looking at some AutoMeter ones. Along with some other nifty gauges like an Oil Pressure gauge, and possibly a nice looking Boost gauge. Then throw them into a pillar pod. I told him I'd be more than happy to wire it up, but I'm not going to start drilling holes into his piping. But if he feels comfortable himself doing it based upon directions, I told him he could probably do it just fine.

Good thing you saw the kids messing with it, Can really imagine having trash stuffed down a stack to be a millage improver. I feel bad for your friend, goodluck taking it apart and hopefully there isnt anything in there that can cause damage.

Skip autometer, Get DiProcol or Issopro gauges. Get a trans temp, pyro, and boost.

Why?... Autometer makes excellent quality qauges. Most of the guys around here use them at the dirt track and dragstrip.
