Issues with expansion tank cap.

In the last two years, I have replaced the expansion tank cap on my 2005 PSD three times. I just replaced the second one just two weeks ago and it is leaking around the cap. It doesn't leak until the outside temperature reaches between 80 to 90 degrees. Does anyone here have the same problem? Is there a replacement cap not from Ford that doesn't have these problems? I'm getting tired of washing down my engine. Thanks. Bugman.

I had the feeling that was the problem. What kind of numbers are we talking for head gasket replacement?

I have 110,000 miles on it. What are we talking, $3,000 to $5,000?

I think it's between 15 and 20 hours of labor plus the parts.

I called the dealer that I purchased my truck from and I got the cold shoulder. Called local dealers but, they never called me back with estimates. Got an estimate of $5,400.00 to replace the gaskets. They said that it would take three to four days to replace. They will use screw in studs instead of the regular head bolts and better non-factory gaskets. Anyone have some money that I can borrow?

You know the funny thing is that compared to that estimate its almost cheaper to swap in a whole new reman engine. The flip side is that for only another $3k over that estimate you can have a complete 12V Cummins swapped in. Thats done by a shop that can make everything look like factory when its done, but its alot cheaper if you did it on your own. I know I sure wouldn't want to throw $5400 at a 110k mile 6.ohno.

When you took it into Ford over the last 2 years for your expansion cap leaking did you just buy the part yourself, or did you have them diagnose it under warranty? If you just bought the part yourself and threw it on then you're fawked, but if you had multiple occasions where you had the dealer do warranty work on it for the same problem you can take it up with Ford corporate because you have a documented history of this issue while under warranty. You can argue that it was multiple bad diagnosis' by the dealer and they didn't confront you with the major work until after it was out of warranty. Some dealers like to do that as it gives them a larger profit. Though some dealers are just idiots and can't diagnose a burnt out light bulb.
