When I owned my diesel, I used Lucas fuel treatment and cetane boost and it helped out on the fuel mileage a little and it keep the tank pretty clean and once I started using it regularly, I noticed my fuel filter stayed cleaner allot longer.

None of the diesel additives have ever done a thing for my mileage or power. Only thing that I've tried that has truly added mileage is 2 stroke oil. I now run it in every tank.

Read up on what octane is and it will answer this question:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=octane

Higher then required (owners manual) octane will only increase your mileage if it was being diminish before due to pre-ignition.

As Zaairman said, cetane isn't anything like octane, we're talking about diesel engines here not gas engines. Maybe try that link the the engines forum you might get a better response. Now it is true that you can get pre-ignition on a diesel, but its going to take a significant amount of cetane booster to do it. About the only way you're going get preginition is if you're running propane or water/meth and have very poor programming. They equate to a HUGE amount of cetane boost.
