7.3 power stroke ...

Hi, I have a question on a 1997 F-250 powerstroke I'm considering buying as a 2nd work truck. Miles are high, new automatic, transfer case, Engine appears, sounds tired, 400,000 Km.

Any ideas as to wear and tear items than need replacing and what aftermarket tricks I can use to extend some life out of this engine?

Truck runs and drives well for a old girl, I be using it to tow a larger trailer and bob cat than what I use my 2500 hemi for ( I don't what to start a dodge vers Ford thing )

What is excessive oil burning on a D. engine? It smokes a lot on start up when cold.
