cold air intakes?

so does everybody use a cold air intake or modify the air intake....mine is all stock at this point and I was wondering if it was cost effective or worth installing at all? If so what do I need to get? Thanks

On the 7.3 I would get an aftermarket air intake. On the 6.0's people just modify the stock intake. I would not go with a K&N, trust me, I did it and regret it. Any other one is pretty good though, AFE stage II is one of the better I believe. You get that and an exhaust and you'll really wake her up! Good luck

I agree. The 6.0 stock filter is one thing Ford got right with that engine - it'll hold 3 pounds of dirt before needing to be replaced, and flows pretty darn well too. I know the intake was a week point on some of the earlier 7.3s, and led to alot of dusted blocks. I believe you can order the Donaldson (6.0 OEM) from Ford Racing, which might be one thing to look at. Also, the ProGaurd 7 is one of the best aftermarket intakes for diesels as it provides adequate protection, but unless you are using a chip or pushing more than 400-500 hp, its really not needed and provides less protection.

There is a mod called zoodad on the 6.0L that you can do to increase airflow.. You cut a bigger hole in the plastic where there air goes.. I;ve done that plus bought a Green filter for mine that replaces the stock filter while using the same housing.
