Can some of you give me an estimate of MPGs for your diesels? I had a 2000 7.3 at one time, and I routinely got about 19 mpg. I have recently been looking for a newer model, but some friends with the 6.0 claim to only get 14-15 mpg. Does this sound right? Is the newer version less effecient?

 

2000 7.3 4x4 with 3.73 gets anywhere from 12 - 18.5 mpg. Just depends on my driving habits.

 

Friend with his 6.0L 4x4 SuperCrew gets 18.

 

I own a 2005 F350 Diesel Auto 4x4 Crew Cab Long Bed 35" tires and on level ground at 55mph keeping the rpm under 2000 when starting out I was able to nurse 14.7 MPG. This was good it has been around 11 MPG.

 

Something is wrong with your truck then. Buddy o mine has a 2005 CC SB 4x4 and we got 13.something MPG towing a boat in the Ozark hills doing 80.

Also, my MPG figures are with the front hubs locked...

 

I know this dude who knows this dude to got 32 mpg with his 06 PSD.

Kidding of course.

I just did a round trip to Waco and back (1.8) hours each way, and ran 75-80 the whole way and rolled back up to the house with 18 mpg per the computer.

Daily driving with ID Street tune I get 16's per take.

Towing 9K 5er, 70 mph no head wind....13...anything faster and with head wind and hills, I average 11.4. I have found that running at over 70 it doesn't really matter towing, I get the same regardless of hills, around 11.3 or so.

Stock no towing only get around 15 per tank average.

I could get more if I could keep my right foot out of gas while programed.

 

I took it back to my dealer and they said it is about avg. for this truck. I read about everyone at 18 MPG that stinks. I also have a bed cover on it to help and I did not gain any MPG!

 

Wow! What a friend that holds his secret to owning the only F-150 Supercrew with a 6.0L known to man? Just kidding with you - the Supercrew is only the F-150 crewcab, not the Superduty.

Anyway, to the original poster, I have had three 6.0L's and logged every fill on every one. They all averaged about 16.5mpg over 45,000 to 60,000 miles - some 18mpg days, and some 14mpg days. Don't expect to get one and get 18 as a daily driver. It won't happen as the norm, unless it's a 2WD, unloaded, and driving interstate at 55-60mph continually. I'm not saying it won't happen (because I don't know your driving style, location, etc.), but anyone getting better that 16-17 is an exception, not the rule.

 

My 7.3 with 37" tires and 3.73 gears nets an average of 11. Doing 4.3 gears very soon and expecting 12-13. My Dad has a 7.3 6-speed 4x4 on 33" tires and he averages 16. Back before the ULS fuel he got better than that on his current 7.3. His 99 4x2 6-speed would get low twenties.

 

A guy showed me his readout at 21 hauling a 5th wheel with a computer thing and banks exhaust. Could not beleive my eyes.

some one said that diesel fuel has 40% more energy per equal quanitity of gas.

 

And that guy needs to check his math or his methods of getting the MPG numbers.

 

Sounds like the typical Banks owner. Bought it because it says Banks and completely ignorant to what its doing. Plus blind to cost and value. The overhead console is barely right from the factory let alone when you add a programmer. Its programmed with a specific fuel map in it, but when you load in your new fuel map with a chip/programmer/module its still using the old map to calculate mileage thus super inflating the reading. Its not uncommon to see these reading 31mpg with a good chip. Shows how crappy Banks really is.

 

My 6.0 gets around 16 on avg. with mix of city/hwy. I recently drove from San Diego to Phoenix and back at 75mph and got 18.5 MPG hand calc. Towing my 20' bass boat I get about 15MPG towing at 70. Worst I have seen is 14 when it was new and 100% city.

 

Just did a trip from TX to OK on the way home I was hit with 25+ head wind and ran 80-85 with a max of 87 per GPS and I got 16.....needless to say I was happy with that.

 

My 6.4l in my 08 gets right around 11 MPG without the tuner and just over 13 MPG with the tuner. That is with the Performance Tune installed. If I drive faster than 70 MPH, that average starts to drop. If I drive right at 55 MPH for an extended time, I average over 14 MPG. It seems to be the sweet spot.
