Cool Idle question

I just bought on 08 250SD last week. It is my first diesel. This morning when I got to work and put it in park the idle was at 1000 or slightly above. When I would step on the brake pedal it would go down to normal but when I released it, the RPM would climb back up. Is this normal?

It was probably your motor going into regen.

That's right! I just hit 20 hours. Is that the interval at which Regen kicks in? I guess I should have read the manual.

Did you not get a DVD with your truck? Your sales guy should have gone over the Regen with you during you walk through of the truck. If he/she did not, they are a poor excuse for a sales person and should have gone over all that with you.

Anyways, when the DPF starts to get filled with soot, the truck goes into regen mode which revs up the engine and burns off the soot. This will happen anywhere from 100-400 miles, depending on how you drive. Sometimes takes 10 minutes sometimes 20 minutes or longer.

Absolutely nothing to worry about except do not get to close to the exhaust when it happens. It gets very hot.

go to http://forums.thedieselstop.com/foru...oard=26&page=1 and do a search for regen tons of info on it
