2002 Super Duty 4X4 Front Bearing Hub Assbly
2002 Super Duty 4X4 Front Bearing Hub Assbly
I have a 2002 F250 4X4 diesel. It's got a little over 100K on the clock.
I need to change the front wheel bearing hub assemblies...Ford designed a nice all in one assembly that can't be rebuilt...The problem I have is that they are in there and won't come out with simple hand tools!
What's the trick? The book says that if it's stuck to take it a pro...but I think I'm just needing the right tool. Will a big gear puller do the trick?
Thanx for any help you can provide!

Well if they haven't been out yet then there is a good chance its gotten corrosion in the bearing assy bore in the knuckle. In this case there is no extra tool you're going to need to get it off. Its just going to be a flat out pita to remove.
You MIGHT be able to get a 3 jaw gear puller to grab onto the WMS flange and use the center countersink in the axle shaft as the push off point.
Make sure you have all the hardware removed before you start pulling the hub. There are the 4 bolts on the back side of the knuckle, the hub itself (held in by the spring clip), and the snap ring on the shaft with the spacers. Once you're sure you've got all the hardware off, spray penetrating oil around the hub bore in the knuckle, as this will help to loosen things up. From there take a hammer and hit on the side of the hub to jar things a little bit. I use a combination of screwdrivers, chisels, and pry bars to work the hub off. Once you have it off clean the knuckle bore and then put a light coat of antisieze on the hub to prevent this from happening again.
