A Good deal or not
A Good deal or not
I have a chance to purchase a 2003 F250 Crew cab 4X4 . It is pretty well equiped and is in pretty good shape . when I get a book price on it it comes out to be around $20,000 . He is even willing to take my 1992 F150 regular cab 4X4 with 82,000 miles and lots of rust for $2500 trade . His asking price for the 250 is $15,000 minus trade $12,500 . But it does have 110,000 miles on it . Do these motors run along time and do you guys think this is a good deal ?
Thanks a ton for your input .
By the way the motor is a 5.4 / auto .

$15k for a 4 year old truck with a small V8 in a HEAVY truck with 110k miles on it, I'll pass.
That book price seems awefully high, who did you use NADA? Make sure that its got 4.10 gears. Anything less is just simply too high a gear for the 5.4L. Its honestly a 1/2 ton engine. It'll get the job done in a 3/4 ton truck, but its gonna work ALOT harder and drink alot of gas doing it. Especially this truck being a crew cab, its gonna be on the heavy side even for a SD. Expect around 12-13mpg.
I'd honestly be wary of the transmission in the truck. 110k is a good amount of miles for a stock 4R100, so you may be looking at a rebuild not too far down the road. It all depends on if it was towed with and how it was treated by the previous owner. My opinion, unless this truck is THE one I'd keep looking. If it had 30-40k less miles then it might be worth it.
