L laid under my truck for a long time tonight...
Tonight, after I finished waxing my truck, I pulled it up into the garage and slid underneath and just stared at the underside of the truck, appreciating all the technology that goes into making such a beautiful machine. Granted, it's not the Space Shuttle, but it's still amazing to me what goes into them. Thanks to the guys who build these trucks! I could have bought a lot of different vehicles for what I paid for my truck...but I am glad I didn't!
I know i did the same on mine, wow what an amazing piece of work(I actuall y found a few wire holders not pushed in) I cycle everything on a new truck, ie spare off and try out jack etc. It even looks like the new metal parts have some type of clear on them!!! I thought some were wet with some type of leak!!! but they were just shiny with clear paint!!!
Dodge....you must be kidding......after the Cummins, ain't nothin going on there but cheap thin sheet metal that rusts after several years, & the cheapo plastic interior that looks like they never entered into the new Millenium......YUCKOOO!!!
Honestly for 08 I'd pick a Dodge even in the styling dept over the Ford. Never really thought it'd come to that, but the new SD just isn't growing on me at all. Wish I could say that my 99 SD is without rust. The bottom of my DS door is rusted out and I lost my rear diff cover to rust. Been lucky so far on the oil pan as thats usually a problem area. Then again any vehicle thats lived through 9 years of salty winter is gonna have problems like that.
Of course all the new vehicles is what prompted me to go the alt route and put the engine I want (happens to be a non Ford product) in the truck I want. If you can't buy it, build it.
I'll admit that there is alot of electronics and complexity going into trucks now with all the emissions standards. Gotta be on the ball to make all that work right.

I've never considered myself loyal to any brand. Some people are so insanely loyal to a certain brand to a point that I'll never understand.
But I will admit, I am a Ford guy. This doesn't mean that I hate Chevy or despise Nissan, but it does mean that I like Ford better. I have a certain amount of respect for other truck brands, but no matter what, I just seem to ALWAYS come back to Ford. I love my truck, as well as every other Ford, and although I am not fiercely loyal, as I look at other trucks I find myself loving mine even more.
Now, with that said, I will tell you one company I do not respect. Dodge. I HATE Dodge trucks, as well as all other chrysler products. The only quality-made Chrysler product, in my opinion, is a Jeep Wrangler. Grand Cherokees fall apart, Chrysler cars have batteries in the freakin' fender (just stupid), and Dodge trucks feel cheap, plastic, and poorly manufactured.
As I said, I'm not a "Ford all the way, all other trucks suck" kind of person, but I do believe we have some of the finest vehicles on the planet.
So yes, even though it's seven years old, I lay under my truck in wonder, too.

If you're happy with your truck thats fine. You did come across pretty much as a Ford only person. If you have read any of my previous posts I have never owned anything other than a Ford truck. I've been as die hard Ford as you are, but as stated blind brand loyalty can burn you. Every new truck out there now is going to have problems, so this isn't any kind of Ford specific kind of deal. Just like I wouldn't touch a new 6.4L PSD, I won't touch a new 6.7L Cummins for at least a couple years. The 6.0L intro went bad, and I had a very early 97 F150 4.6L (built Jan 96) which had quite a few issues from being a first intro truck.
When I first came to this site 7 years ago I would have jumped on someone for even suggesting a Dodge or GM over a Ford no matter what. Since then I've come to realize they all have their strengths and weaknesses, which has prompted me to build the truck I want to eliminate the weaknesses I've found. I guess I've just progressed to the point where I no longer have the blinders that make me think that this one brand is superior in all ways to anything else. Will I still always own a Ford, definetly, will I choose to buy a new truck (any model), its questionable with the design changes everyone seems to be making now.

ive had all 3.
chevy s-10 all kinds of problems.
dodge dakota - v6 ran great ,started having tranny problems.
f 150- not one major problem in the year ive had her at 130k
i thought about getting a ram with the 5.2 but decided againt it because of the notorious tranny problems. i see why f150 id the best selling truck 30 years?? you wont win any races with them but.... reliabilty is what its about right?

I'd take a slow truck over a fast one. If it was in terms of reliability. At least I can bank on my Ford F150 to get me from point A to point B.
Then again, I can agree freekyFX4 about appreciating all of this technology that goes into these marvelous inventions. I've often found myself laying underneath both my F150 and my Dakota wondering how and why the engineers placed certain items here and there, and how they figured out how it would work. So much thought...

I've driven gmc/chev for a company vehicle, I've owned a Dodge liked the truck hated the milage, had a lot of looks when driving it.
HOWEVER they do not compare to the f350 I currently own, They all have there problems, but it seems that the Fords are a more workable and playable truck.
With my old 7.3 I have worn out 3 sets of rear tires and thats not all from pulling. I'll just say that the others could not find the right gears.
As for the new engine, they probably will have some bugs, thats what warrenty is for. I hope to trade next year, and the 6.4 is at the top of my list. The other brands are to expensive to fix.
GM's injectors are over 800 Dollars each Canadian. Hope the poor fools catch it under warrenty. Fords are around 200 each.
My next truck i'm 90% sure will be a Ford.

one more thing, about the tech part. Isn't it amazing that few simple mods make a truck more powerful, exhaust, air filters, computer chips and programmers.
The best part of those things on a diesel, the diesel still sounds the same to a non diesel owning person. Until ya pass them.
Technology is great.
