superduty frame coating

One thing that impressed me with my 04 F150 was the frame coating, I had the truck 2 years/100k km's and in the mud lots yet the frame coating was still almost flawless.

I noticed when I installed my fifth wheel hitch in my superduty that the frame has this gooey black crap on it that sticks to everything, and now that the truck is 1 year old and has 40k km's, the frame is really starting to look like crap and is especially noticable in the wheel wells with the lift kit and all.

Are the 08's frame coatings the same as the F150's now?

Maybe I am too picky, but I just had to vent.

I see the frames moving around this area ALL THE TIME. I'm not sure who makes them... great questions on the use of various coatings though.

If someone could ID the plant that makes them, we might be able to isolate what chemicals are used for the coating operations from their air permit (which is publically available).

Dana makes the Super Duty frames, or used to. I know they did for the models previous to the 08 models. The new 08 frames no longer have to "goopy" stuff on them anymore, they are painted a somewhat semi gloss black. We were told the 150 and Super Duties will be sharing a universal frame in the near future. Hope this helps. Hey nevrenuff it is quite possible that I might of painted your truck. I worked in the paint department for 6 1/2 years before transfering to the engine line.

My frame wasn't gooey until I started to wire brush/sand it. I was very happy how well the frame coating was.
