Hey Guys,

I ordered a 2006 F250 SC, 8' bed w/ V10 and 4:30 rear. This was in May 2005 and picked it up in August. The 3 valve is nice and smooth as the other posters replied. Gas mileage does - suck- but when buying a truck like this gas mileage wasn't an issue too much, Sure the diesel may get 4mpg better. I don't tow too much, but love off-roadin' and an occasional 'stop -light-to stop - light' fun. It's plenty capable in power and so far has had zero hiccups. I believe it's the best gasser out there out of all the trucks in it's class!

Currently, diesel is $2.66 here (in town). Its cheaper at the truck stops. Gasoline is $2.95.

Yup...V10 has it's place and Diesel has it's place. If your looking for gas mileage only and need decent power the 5.4 is a good choice. If your towing heavy loads everyday the diesel is the best choice. The V10 will give great smooth gasser power with the lesser of the two in mpg ..

I wouldnt look at the 5.4 in a superduty, will get worse mileage than the V10 and work twice as hard to move your load, its too much truck for that engine to handle, go with the V10 or the PSD.

Though I have seen many 5.4's in work trucks (some owned by the city) I do agree with Powerdome in choosing the V10 or PSD. I think the 5.4 will get better gas mileage on the flat interstate - unloaded though

The Chevy big block 8.1L is a 496ci engine. Chevy calls it the 502. Where I am, they are pretty rare and even on autotrader they are hard to find. They have great power with not too shabby mpg at about 16. My uncle had one. You will most-likely find it with the Allison backing it rather then the 6-speed ZF. Those were supposedly the only two trannys that you could get, unless you got a suburban with the 8.1L, then all you could get was the 4-speed transmission. I think it's the 4L80 or 85E.

What are people getting for mileage on their V10s right now? What about anyone who has a 2006 PSD? I'm thinking about getting another truck and selling mine. I am really interested in a white FX4 F-250, but not sure about the V10 or the PSD. I would really like to know mileages. I will try a search too but if anyone can just answer.

When I bought mine last year I searched many of the Ford lots and couldn't find a single V-10. I went through probably 20 or so dealers through the Ford website looking for them. You don't even see many V-8 gas engines around here.

I cant say about the V-10 F-250, I have a 06 250 diesel, however the 8.1 is a bad *** motor. My dad had a 2500 4x4 CC 8.1l and that thing had a TON of power. It did get pretty bad mpg though....

The 3 valve 6.8L V10 (2005 and up)and 8.1L V8 are comparable in power:

*rated at the motor

8.1L V8 = 330hp @ 4200rpm / 450lbs torque @ 3200
6.8L V10 = 362hp @ 4750rpm / 457lbs torque @ 3250

They both
