1987 f350 crewcab with 6.9 or 7.3 Starting problems?

Hi all,
I have an 87 Crewcab 4x4 that supposedly has a 7.3 non-superduty in it. It doesn't want to start. It cranks and all but wont turn over. I've used starting fluid to start it and then it runs (but I don't want to do that anymore). Any ideas? It may still have the 6.9 in it but I really need to get this truck on the road soon. I appreciate all help in this matter.

Are you getting a wait to start light?

FYI - you might get better luck on a diesel site.. like The Diesel Garage or The Powerstroke Forums

The 2nd link will be of little to no help as thats a PSD focused site. His engine is a NON PSD! I would check the IDI forums at www.thedieselgarage.com or www.thedieselstop.com

Try looking at the site first.... There is an ENTIRE section of the forums that has to do with both the 6.9 and 7.3 IDI engines, much like those in The Diesel Garage and The Diesel Stop.

Wow, good try but ya both missed the link with the most IDI info in a drama free site.

Common for the fuel return lines and selector switch to leak air in and cause a no start. Could be a bad IP pump too. Do some reading at my link.
