7.3 PSD fuel mileage?

Can anyone give me a good idea of a 2001 F250 w/ 7.3 PSD (4x4) fuel mileage? I have a 2001 F150 4.2 and a 2000 F150 4.6 now that get 15 to 18 each depending on driving. It is 90% highway miles that I put on. Anyone with experience whether it will be much better with the PSD?

It could be anything from under 10mpg to 18-19mpg. The 7.3L were all over the place depending on setup and the condition of the truck. The more air it sucks the more fuel economy is going to drop. Economy also fluctuates alot depending on the quality of the fuel you buy and the time of the year (summer or winter blend). The short answer is that you'll have to find out for yourself because a ballpark guess is barely possible.

As mentioned, a LOT of variables. The one variable that has my truck by the ***** is the gearing. 4:10s, with nothing behind the truck, is WAY low for highway traveling.

This is my truck:

1996 extended cab
longbed
4x4
Auto trans
4:10 gears
stock tiresize
215k miles, with ZERO records prior to 210k Ive put 5k on it since august.

The lowest Ive ever gotten in my '96 Powerstroke is 10 mpg. That was 100% city driving it, with the pedal to the floor pretty often.

Highest Ive gotten was a smidge over 19 mpg. 100% highway driving, on the flats, during the summer, with the crusie set at 65mph.

I just got back from a trip to CA. A touch over 2k miles round trip. Cruise control set at 70mph the entire way, with a lot of moutain passes between start and finish. On the way down I averaged 17mpg (empty). On the way back, I was loaded with a 1/2 cord of Oak firewood. Roughly 2k lbs payload.. Same driving habits on the way back, but I must also mention that I had a TON of headwind for 3-4 hours of the trip (30-40mph winds, with 50mph gusts)..... cruise set at 70mph. I averaged just under 15mpg.

All in all, Im happy.

Hell, I only paid $3200 for the thing

Good luck seeing 20 on a 7.3L. The only way thats going to happen is to shut the engine off coast down a looooooong *** hill. Most peak out around 17-18mpg. A few will get up to 19, and very very few flirt with 20. I know of only 1 psd that gets 25-26mpg and that has the mileage logs to back it up. However its a 2wd 6spd with 3.08 gears and all the mods to help mileage.

My 2003 F250 4X4 gets 19 on the highway. Just completed a 800 mi. trip and it averaged 18.912. I have seen it drop as low as 14mpg through the mountains here in east Tennessee.
My truck just tripped 80k and I maintain it on a regular basis. I traded a 2002 F150 with a 4.6 that was getting 17mpg.

For me, (auto, 4x4, crew, short box, 3.73), I've gotten low as 10 loaded down wayyy past the gvwr runnin a 50% kerosene mix, and can easily hit 19.5 on straight summer diesel doing 70mph not towing.

Although I was suprised on my last highway trip monday of 177.6miles and only 9.3gallons of winter diesel making 19.1.
