350 rear end?

I haven't really even looked at one up close yet, but I noticed that the newer 350 rear axle doesn't look like a typical 9". Or did they just add some steel plates on the outside like chevy and dodge (they need to, to make theirs look tough to make up for lack of strength )?

Huh?

The nine inch hasn't been used since '85ish under the F100/F150/Bronco.

Since 84ish the F350 has used a full floating Sterling 10.25, I believe the dodges use the equally strong Dana 80, and the chevys use the bulletproof 14bolt.

Actually it's a 10.5 now. But yeah, no 9" rear end for years.

Ok. Then what rear end is put into the 1/2 tons with the 5.4 and the 3/4 tons. To me those are the 9" ends because of the larger size and different shape compared to the 8.8". At least that was how it was explained to me at some point in my life.

This is a 9" and can be quickly spotted with its completely removable third member.

Used from the stone age to 84-85 under the half ton trucks.

'97+ F-150s and F-250LD/F-150 7700s us a Sterling 9.75

Doh! Good point, the '99+ Superdutys have the 10.5, it looks the same on the outside though.

One more thing, 97+ f150s use an 8.8 Sterling if they have a 4.6 or a 4.2. The 5.4s use the 9.75. The f250LD/f150 7700s use a semifloating 10.25 sterling.

Oh ok, thought I remember reading the F-250LD/F-150 7700s only had the 9.75, but I guess the 10.25 makes sense. Semifloating though, blaaa...

As a note, not all 5.4L trucks got a 9.75 rear. Some of the earlier production trucks got the 8.8. The majority did get the 9.75, but the 8.8s are out there behind the 5.4L.
