Question Sluggish 5.4

I have a 2003 SD CrewCab F250 5.4L with 47K miles on it, I have found just recently that the truck when I shower down on it to pass or sometimes going up steep grades will down shift but only ramp up to 4200 RPMs and then fall off to 3800 RPMs and the speed will continue to decrease. I have replaced the fuel filter, and have taken it into the local Ford Dealership for diagnostics. They say the diagnostics are fine but admit there is a problem. They have checked everything they say and feel that it may be a fuel pump beginning to fail. There suggestion is that continue to drive it in hopes that it will fail, I would appreciate any suggestions to this matter.
