hey guys, right now i currently own an 05 f150 kr. dont get me wrong, i love my truck.....its just not a deisel though. i am sick of getting bad gas mileage, 12mpg, and also being slow and not being able to pull things easily. i hate my truck down shifting just to keep up to traffics speed on the highway. now, my truck is loaded with everything, even has rims and tires on it, 35s etc...im looking at getting into a used deisel f250 or 350, whatever is cheaper. i dont know how much my truck is worth with 38k miles on it, but im looking to stay in the 29k dollar range and of course go with a 4door lariate 4x4. do yall think this is a good move, or a bad one as far as switching from an 05 gasser, to a used deisel? give me some pointers, haha need help.
Well I did it. I traded my 04 Lariat supercrew 4x4 in for an 03 CrewCab Lariat 7.3 diesel. My old 04 only had 20,500 miles my 03 F250 has 58,000 miles. Truck is real clean. I ended up paying them $2000 for it. You will not get waht you think your truck is worth since they are trying to move the 06 out. One thing to think about if you are looking for an 03,04 F250 diesel that was there first year for the 6.0 L. They had there problems, thats why I wanted the old 7.3 L. There was another dealer that had an 03 and he wanted $7500 from me............. I got lucky to find mine. Will a diesel save you money, probable not. Diesel .15 to .20 higher, 15 quarts per oil change $20 filter and more. But they sure are nice.
BOfer,
I hate to say it, but you will lose your !@#$. If I werw you and set on a diesel, I would find a nice used 7.3L. Then I'd install an aftermarket intake, 4-inch turbo-back exhaust, and a Hypermax 330 chip. Then I'd drive it easy and expect 20mpg on the highway. I did it in 2002, and regeret dumping the rig. Of course, by now, she'd of had over 250,000 on the clock now. I currently have a 2006 6.oL, and on a good day, I get 16.5mpg. The turbo lag sucks, but it is a nice dolled-up rig that hauls like a freighter. I only haul a 4,200# pop-up mostly, and the rest it is a commmuter. I average between 800 and 1,000 miles per week, so the diesel has been the way to go. Now, with poor fuel prices and crappy mileage, I am thinking about going back to an F-150 Screw. My 2005 F-150 Screw (5.4L) averaged 16.7 over the year I had it, and was an extremely pleasant ride. This 2006 F-150 beats the dung out of me during the week for that many miles, and I'm not getting any younger. With the drastic changes for 2008 in the Superduty lineup, I may have ot retire my 2006 to the barn for hauling, and go to a more economical car for the commute - scratching an F-150 all together.

I had a 02 F150 4x4 Lariat SCrew. In 05 I traded it in on a 06 F350 Diesel of course. I now have 28K on the Diesel and it runs great. I pulled a camper with the 150 and the 150 was not going to last very long doing that (Camper at about 6500lbs). Now somtimes with the diesel I forget the camper is back there. I only have to downshift up fairly steep hills while pulling the camper. Otherwise I can go up a 6% grade with out shifting out of 5th gear and gain speed.(not pulling camper of course).
