Axle Ratio

Is there an area on a F-250 that states what rear end ratio it has? I'm looking at a used '02 and want to know what the axle ratio is. Thanks

Door jam sticker has an axle code you can look up.

If it is a PSD, it is 3.73. Gassers could be optioned with 4.10

There is usually a tag on the differential housing itself that tells. My tag says "4L30" for the 4.30 Limited Slip axle. A 3.73 non-limited slip should read "3 73", 4.10 LS should read 4L10, etc.

On a 250 it could be either 3.55 or 3.73. The 4.10 was an option for them, but extremely rare in a 250. Very common in a 350 though.

I don't get that. The difference in tow capacity is like 2,400 lbs. I bet a lot of folks are driving around thinking they can tow up to 12,500 lbs when in fact, they should be around 10,000 lbs.

I believe just on the gassers a single rear wheel truck could get 4.10.

A 5.4L could get the 4.10 gears, and alot of them I think did. I don't remember if the 4.10 gears were even an option for the V10s. The V10s were the only thing to get a 4.30 gear option which I NEVER understood. Give the deep gears to the gas engine that actually HAS torque, instead of giving them to the small V8 that actually needs them

Anyhow, the 4.10s were very common in dually trucks either diesel or gas.

If you're looking at a 5.4L make sure its got 4.10 gears, cause its going to need it. If you're looking at a V10 3.73 gears would work best to balance between towing and unloaded fuel economy. If its a diesel then 3.55s would be great as it'll help your fuel economy go up, but towing will be a little lower. Most of the F250 diesels from 99 up will have 3.73s. Unless you gotta pull heavy alot I wouldn't want 4.10s

That's good to know, because I've been searching for a 4WD with the 4.10 axle because I really want that extra tow capacity, just in case. Looks like this makes my question of gas vs diesel a little easier.

No wonder I haven't been able to find a 4WD with the 4.10, damn!
