If they are coming out as a 2008 model, then it looks like I am buying a 2009 F350 supercab, long box,4X4, 6.4L diesel

geaze....Ford had the navistar engines, than went on thier own with the 7.3, tweaked them up for a while, than built the 6.0 and now a 6.4? Can't Ford build a D. engine and stick with it?

The 6.9, 7.3 idi/idi turbo, 7.3l dit, 6.0l dit and 6.4 are all navistar (international) engines.

The 6.4 is a stroked 6.0l - with common rail injection - so its still a 6l based engine, just changed to reduce emissions and reduce problems caused by a smaller injector fired by oil. The 7.3 used the same type of injection system but the injectors are more than twice the size.

btw the idi 6.9/7.3 idi are pretty much the same except for the cubes, kinda like how the 6.0l/6.4 will be, but with a differnent injection system.

Just thought i'd mention that dodge who also does not build there engine is changing for emission reasons aswell, just like gm who does not build there engine. The cummins has changed a lot over the years aswell but just the cubic inches stayed the same.

All are from IH.

Ford no doubt would have wanted to stick with the ultra reliable second generation 7.3L PSD, but emissions laws forced the 6.0L.
