2005 F250 SD - Wheel Hop
2005 F250 SD - Wheel Hop
I recently purchased the '05 F250. I noticed that at highway speeds, hitting bumps can be very unnerving. After doing some online research, I am finding articles related to "Wheel Hop", and references to the 'New' front suspension, etc.
Here is my issue, and if anyone has experienced the same and has advice, It would be appreciated.
Driving at 55mph or higher, hitting bumps in the road, for ex, like approaching and exiting a highway bridge, if the road transition is not severe, the truck handles fine, but if the bump is above average, the truck starts bouncing, front and rear, and becomes basically uncontrollable. If you don't decelerate immediately to about 40 mph, I believe this will cause a terrible accident. My initial analysis of the situation is this, it seems that possibly the shocks are not doing their job, that the truck is bouncing like the coil springs acting like a slinky! Its a weird and dangerous situation and I need to find an answer fast! Please advise! Thank you all...

okay, let me see if i am understanding this properly,
while driving down the road and hitting a bump the truck starts to bounce excessively, correct??
if so, some of the things that you might look at, are shock condition, your springs are obviously working properly, springs are just made to oscolate (sp) up and down, like they are if your bouncing. now your shocks are their just to control the bouncing or oscolation of the springs. your shocks could be bad, check for leaking anywhere on them, (mainly leak around the top)
or as stated before, tires can have a big effect on handiling of a vehicle, the side wall strength helps with ride. (hince all the cars with tiny side walls have a harsh ride) but i do not believe they would cause an excessive bouncing.
also just one more question, does your truck bounce up and down, or is it more of a swaying motion, because if its a swaying motion, you need to check out your sway bars, sway bar bushings, and end links. sway bars are designed to control side to side motion of the vehicle.
