First off, it's only a widespread problem on the '99 & '00 models. After that it's practically unheard of. I've been reading three or four different Ford truck foums for about 4 years now and I don't think I've seen any compaints of 2001 and up models blowing plugs. But there are a small but steady stream of reports of early V10 and some V8s blowing plugs.

It can be repaired with a helicoil kit installed by a decent mechanic. Probably in the $500 to $700 range. Proper torquing of the spark plugs is the best way to prevent it. Don't ask Ford to fix it, in any case! Their solution is to replace the head for about $2000!!
