next to impossible....D engines run over three times the compression ratio of a gas engine, a gas block would not survive..than you have to replace the spark plugs with glow plugs....D engines have a sleave that fit's inside the cylinder...

GM had the same idea with the 350 V/8...did not work..

I think he's asking about swapping in a diesel, not converting a gas engine to diesel. Also FYI, PSD engines do NOT have a sleaved block. Not all diesels have that, typically OTR trucks and large power / marine applications use a sleaved block.

To answer your question its not really cost effective vs trading the truck. The PSD engine uses alot of electronics and the wiring would be a nightmare to say the least. Add in the cost of a different transmission and complete fuel system as the gas one is not rated for diesel fuel. A 12V Cummins swap would be easier due to the lack of electronics, but still alot of fabrication and alot of cost. Either way you're looking $5000-$10,000 to do it.

Gas to Diesel Conversion

There is a company in Montana that does Cummins diesel conversions and sells conversion kits. Price is not cheap though. $5-15K.

Not cost effective, but anything is possible with money.

How cost effective would it be, with a free 1997 psd, 4r100, nv transfer case, basically entire truck. Anything that was there stock, I have free access to. Just curious to know, if it isnt too tough there will soon be a documentary...

Well if you have free acess to it then it can be done for minimal cost. You're going to have to take pretty much everything from the donor truck. All electronics will have to be moved over, transmission crossmember, driveshafts, fuel tank, fuel system, and other misc items. You need to do the fuel stuff so you get the parts rated for diesel fuel. The electronics will be the hardest part of this whole swap.
