one last question for powerstroke

I've chosen this method for my boost gauge. Do I need a new gasket or anything when re installing the manifold (for lack of the proper term) or can I just bolt it back down after drilling and tapping the sender. I will of course tighten it to the proper ft lbs.

Thanks for all your advise
Scott

Are you talking about the seal on the intake horn to the engine or just the boost fitting? If its the horn to engine I'm not sure as I have not had one of those off. You might try giving a call to the local dealer and see what they recomment. If its the fitting I just put some teflon tape on mine and put it in.

Yeah

that was my plan today but I had no idea what to call that part so I did not.
So... intake horn. Ok, I'll call them in the morning. I'm guessing that it is necesary to remove the intake horn prior to drillng?

thanks again

I would suggest it. Unless you can guarantee that no shavings will get in there which would be very hard to do.

the answer is

no, for those who want to install the sender for the boost gauge in the intake horn. There is no gasket. The intake horn has an o-ring seated in a groove on the bottom of the horn. The removal and drilling/tapping is very easy and only took about 15 minutes.

I realize the drilling and tapping is done. Another way to do this is; you could have taken the rubber hose off stuffed a rag in the horn past where you will be drilling/tapping and after the job is done pull the rag out and the chips will come out with it. Neither way is right or wrong just as long as the chips do not go into the engine.

that may work

but you never know what shavings might fall off as you pull the rag out. This is for sure, the drilling and tapping are much easier to do on a work bench rather than trying to balance ones self over the engine while trying to drill a straight hole at the same time.

what ever works

hey zap

that is exactly how I drilled my egt sender into the manifold. I was scared to death at first because all I kept hearing was that you could f-up the turbo if any shavings were in the manifold, but it was very easy. I was quoted prices from 450.00 to 385.00 from muffler shops to remove the manifold and do the drilling. It just did not seem all that scary after that.
