F350 '99 powerstroke Throttle fails to react when pressed.

Question:

Has anyone had a problem with their powerstroke where they push the throttle and nothing happens with the engine speed? Lately, I have experienced this. Cranks easy, just when I put it in gear, push the gas, the engine remains idle....

Any suggestions, comments?

Thanks.

Your PSD's throttle is "fly by wire" and the accelerator pedal is nothing more than a rheostat. There is also a validation switch on the accelerator. Could be eith one of those things...I'd bet the validation switch.

if a p.s.d. is not warmed up properly...if you just get in and go when cold it will not respond...keeps the turbo from killing the transmission....my truck will not move when its cold and i just "step on it" ...zap!

The PSD has no such feature built into it. If yours is doing that then there is something wrong with it. Typically in cold weather it will be more sluggish and less responsive, due to the cold oil driving the injectors and the EBPV actuating. Also remember here that there is a dead spot at the begining of the pedal movement which I guess could be concieved as what you're describing, though it has nothing to do with any kind of a safety feature. To the original question, the position switch in the pedal assembly is known for going bad which is most likely the problem here. First check the connection to make sure the harness is tight. Last I checked with Ford you can't buy just the switch, they sell it only in a new pedal assembly.

thanks ps...i really dont think i have a problem...as the weather gets warmer here it does it less and less...i guess the "dead spot " as you described must be the culprit...its never let me down...and its one hell of a plow truck...zap!
