Cool v10 exhaust

SD v10 is on order. Looking for feedback on experiences on exhaust changes. I want to get Power/performance improvement, and good deep sound. Clearly, it's no v8, but the stock system is pretty cool.

I rode a ram2500 v10 with dual exhaust. It sounded like a UPS truck: terrible! I don't want that sound.

Also, anyone experienced a performance improvement doing the exhaust and FIPK combo.

Chuck

Friend of mine has a V-10, installed Gibson Sweptside and K&N "drop in", he says better perfomance and more mpg, sounds louder than stock, but won't drive you out of the cab.

Cool

In case you didn't see it in some of my other post, I have a Y2K V-10 and have installed a Banks PowerPack and a SuperChip. I love the performance and Fuel Economy increase (as long as I keep my foot out of it).

You can check out my WEB pages at: http://ic.net/~wawii

Hi Carlos,

The FIPK kit and the exhaust mods will work just fine together, and both are worthwhile. Most V-10's see about 14-15 hp. from the FIPK kit, and 12-15 hp. from a good cat-back exhaust system.

Once you've done that, you might want to think about a Superchip as well, that's up to you of course.

Congratulations on your new V-10, & best of luck!

Cat back was a piece of cake, really woke up motor, sounds like a ups truck on an awful lot of steroids. Borla headers took approx. 15 hrs. to install. This was probably the best money i have spent the factory y pipe and exhaust manifolds are so tiny, only 2 to 2.25 inches in diameter. I used the stock exhaust gaskets at cyl. head and have no leaks. Eric

Ford V10,

Tell us more about your Borla headers. Can you really feel the power? 15 hours?? Whoa... Is it hard or just time consuming? Thanks a bunch.

The difference in the exhaust is night and day,the borla headers come with a new y pipe that is 3 inches in diameter from header to cat. the reason it took so long is there are about8 bolts that are hard to get started,4 on pass. side 4 on drivers side.Fitment was excellent, everything bolted up.my mileage around town went up to 12-13mpg from 8 to 10. I havent gone on any road trips yet but I averaged 13-16 mpg on our vacation to northern wisconsin, drove about 1800 miles over 8 days. This site is new to me but I usually check it out daily. Ill be happy to answer any more questions any one might have.

The Banps PowerPack (Headers, Y-Pipe, Muffler, Monster Pipe and filter housing) took two of a full 10 hours (just what they advertised) to install.

Those header bolts are indeed very very hard to ge to! I did the driver passenger side install by my self and it took 4 hours, while my budy did the driver side in the same 4 hours!

I did install my self in my driveway, the hardest bolts are back 3 top ones, they kept slipping out of my big fingers down into where all 5 tubes meet collector, since bolts were stainless i had to remove header 4 times.Idid not take any pictures. The rangers 302 was blown by a bds 6-71 huffer, got bored with it 4 years ago and parked it,sold blower setup, removed motor and covered it. I got the itch to put it back on the road and had a 69 429 that i built for a previos truck that went to the bone yard.302 was approx. 450 hp,429 is approx 550hp.Some day I will buy a digital camera and take pictures.

I know the Banks headers come with a lot of sheilding etc. How do the Borlas look as far as clearance to things like the starter etc? Are the O2 sensor wires long enough? Did you remove the tires and wheel wells for access? Does Borla give you good instructions? Lastly, where did you order them from and what did you pay?

Thanks a bunch Eric. You and Will are the only few who have done this mod and your input is greatly appreciated. I think the wife is starting to see things my way for a change...

Clearance issues are nonexistant.O-2 wires are long enough, the hardest part with them was disconnecting them from the wire harnesses,I left them on the exhaust manifolds to remove them on the bench with a vise,my truck is a 4x4 so i left tires and wheel wells on truck.Instructions were pretty straight forward. I bought the headers from truck performance.com,I think I paid $599 plus shipping. The part Borla part number is 17172 these fit 1999&2000 crewcabs, auto trans,2&4wd.
