Post Removing Crew Cab carpet...

I saw a Explorer SporTrac at my dealer the other night, and it had no carpeting, instead it had the rubber floor (with leather seats no less!)

I am wondering if I can remove the carpeting in my 2000 SuperDuty crew cab and replace it with rubber? I like the look of carpet, I just don't like the care of it...

Anybody done this? How much sound-deadening is lost? Is this something that a dealer can get?

Thanks!

Cool

Have you thought of just going to some place like HomeDepot and buying clear vinal carpet runner?? I put some in my last truck in the back because of the kids spilling stuff. The stuff I bought had little prongs on the back side that would keep the vinal from moving on the carpet. Also it had paper on the back that I used as a pattern in the truck. I placed the paper down first, marked it and then placed it on the vinal and cut it to fit perfect. Most people never noticed that I had the carpet covered and I kept the floor mats on top of it too. When I sold the truck, the carpet still looked brand new. If you still want to change out the carpet for something else, try the diesel board www.ford-diesel.com Let us know what you end of doing.

IKE,

You can and order the non-carpet floor covering (not rubber or vinyl) that is used in the XL and Carpet-Delete on XLT's. It will come with out all the cut outs for the seats, but you can use the carpet floor for a template as needed.

The non-carpet floor will increase the interior cab sound levels as it is lighter in mass that the mass backed carpet, and it also does not have the carpet face to absorb some sound.

You might consider some of the aftermarket non-carpet floor mats as a better option.

I like the carpeting from the standpoint of sound deadening. I have an XLT and I purchased the Husky FloorLiners. Had them in this year all during hunting season and they have worked wonders. There are several varieties of the floor liners besides Husky. My buddy says the drivers side Husky floor liner will catch and hold a full beer. Never tried it myself. But I bet he is right.
