LMFAO!
'460' and 'fuel efficiency' don't even go in the same sentence! I had a '78 F250 that a previous owner equipped with a '77 Lincoln 460. Ford didn't offer the 460 for a couple years in the late 70's due to fuel economy issues. I guess enough people wanted it that they brought it back in the early 80's.

Anyway, the '78 F250 with '77 Lincoln 460 (factory 4 barrel intake and 4 barrel carb) had a mild cam in it and got about 9-10 mpg average unless it was working. I pulled a big trailer with it much of the time and then it would get as little as 6 mpg. Highway trips running empty would get 11. I didn't even think about firing it up unless I had $20 to feed it.

460?.....Fuel efficiency? Just kidding. I didn't know anyone that owned a truck with a 460 was even concerned with fuel efficiency! Now you got me curious as to what is a 460's fuel efficiency?

460

I have a 97 250 H/D with a 460ci with about 34,000 on it. Throw into the mix that it won't run on anything under 91 octain without pinging. I get about 10 mpg. It came from the factory with 240hp and about 400 fpt. I did something about 2 weeks ago that realy made a difference. I put a chip in it and that really made a big difference. I don't have any numbers but it feels like a whole different truck. I also butchered the intake to get more direct air flow into the motor. Again some inprovement. Now it feels like it should have out of the factory.

Rocky, I take exception to your above statement. My 79 F-250 xlt c-6 two wheel drive got 4 or 5 mpg around town and maby 8 on the highway.
