Post Bed size?

Is the bed dimentions the same for the Super Duty as the F150? The reason i ask is if i get a F250 short bed I already have a fiberglass tonnoue cover I could keep and move over. My dealer says they are but I rarely trust salesmen! Need answer quick if anyone knows.

No, the bed size is not the same..
SD is slightly longer, wider, and it appears deeper, but I can't be sure about the depth..

Also the bedrails on the SD taper in slightly, again, im not sure about the F150..

But your quick answer is NO, they are not the same.

Nope, they're not the same. SD is wider. I had to order a top (ARE tonneau) cover for my new SD. It's also got a depression ridge down the center that matches the front hood. The fit is different too than my old 97 ARE cover. The F150 cover hid all of the black rails. On the SD you still see some of the rails. It doesn't show up much on my truck because the truck is so dark but on a light color truck you would notice that rail.

PS You know better than to trust anything a salesman says
OK, I'm sure some do know what they're talking about but I just haven't run accross them yet

I hear you both loud and clear. Thanks you guy & gal. Looking to buy this one.

One (or two!) more question(s). It says in the glossy that the tank is a 38 Gallon. The sticker says "standard" is 29 gallon. No mention of anything else. Which is it? BTW This is a Super cab, short bed 5.4L. Also it says that the towing package comes with 7 pin trailer hook up. There is not one on this truck and the documentation in the plastic package with the wireing harness indicted the 7 pin receptical is a dealer available option. Which is correct? I still have time to negotiate!

SuperDuty shortbed trucks get the 29gal tank, longbeds get the larger one..

My SD (with tow package) came with both a 4pin, and a larger round (7pin) side by side in the bracket next to the hitch.

I've also heard of the setup where there's an adapter plug that converts the 4 to 7.. or vice versa..

How much towing do you plan to do? (I thought you said you were goin with the 3.73 rear end)

Your gonna love the truck.

R Bess,

Thats what I thought. I see a 4 pin on this one but no 7 pin. All the F150's I looked at with Trailer Tow Pkg had a 7 pin and a 4 pin adapter in the glove.

I am going with the 3.73 partly because thats what this one has and even if I was to chose I probably would go that route because of the small size of my load and my need to use this as a commuter on occasion. MPG concern

I am towing a Fleetwood Prowler Lite 24 foot travel trailer and maybe putting a 500 pound 4 wheeler in the truck bed at times. Dry weight of the camper is 3800 pounds and max GWR of the camper is 5600 pounds.

Sound like I am OK? I am trying to allow a 20-30 % overage for the mountains and to not stress the engine so much as to get longevity out of this thing.

Cool

CPhilip: do you have the window sticker for this truck?? It sounds like you do NOT have the Trailer Towing Pkg. I do and it came from the factory with the 4 pin and the 7 pin on the rear. Plus a front stabilizer bar(4x2), trailer brake wiring kit & a heavy-duty amp. alternator. Even though I've got the crew cab, I've got the short box, so 28 gal fuel tank here. (I still think it takes too long to fill up if it's raining)

Yes, the window sticker has Trailer tow package on it. And additonal line item for the hitch as well. Got the HD alternator credit listed and the wirening bundle is in the glove box. Crawling under this weekend and located the tranny cooler and the front sway bar. There is a truck similar to mine sitting right next to it that has the same two sticker options listed and it has a combination 7 pin/ 4 pin on it. Both built at the same plant. The just forgot to add on the 7 pin plug combo! Dealer says it has hppened once before. He will fix it. Quality is job one.

One other thing. Every thing I can find says you get a class IV hitch if you opt for the hitch at $150. None of the SD's I have looked at has anything other than a class III on it straight from the factory.!

I've got the class IV hitch. I first checked my sticker, it just said Trailer Hitch Receiver $150. So then I went to the DORA (from when my dealer put in the order) It has 86R Trailer Hitch Reciever $150/$128. 86R is the code for class IV

cphilip, I have a '00 SD 4x4 with the towing package and hitch. My truck came with the 4 pin connecter only. The '00s didn't have both until late Sept/early Oct. production. Your truck may be one of these earlier models, don't worry about it. The hitches are Class IV too.

This one has a 9/99 build date on it. So you might be right. But my salesman is convinced I am right and he is getting me one. In fact I think he is trying to jerk the one off the neibor and put it on mine before I pick it up Wednesday! If not he says he is ordering me one.

As far as the hitch goes my Trailer dealer says a calss III and a Class IV are really the same hitch. It has to do with what they are attached too. Does not make sense to me but since I really only need a class III for what I am towing I will not gripe too much.

A couple of things I noticed: The air intake on the SD is very cleverly placed to take air through the front grill and not the side panel. Nice touch.

The salesman tried to show me the tranny cooler and was actually pointing out the power steering cooler. Made me nervous at first as it was so small. I haven't had the heart to tell him I found the real thing and it is huge! What a num nutze he is!

These things I noticed: Drain plug for the tranny, Hoo Raa! Engine oil drain plug and filter right together and easily accessable. A double Hoo Raa!

The receiver on the class III and IV hitches are the same size. However, the Class IV requires stabilizer (load balancing) trailer hitch to achieve the Class IV rating..

Its unlikely you'll see any better (or worse) mpg with the 3.73.. Your gonna love the truck, and better yet, you didn't have to wait 8 weeks to get it..

CPhilip: way to go!! Now, since the dealer should have the tank full, take the wife for a nice drive. Plan a day or afternoon for this and pack a picnic lunch w/wine (for her since you're driving) By the time you get her back home, she'll think that truck is the best thing you've ever bought
