I ordered a 2000 F-350 SD Lariat Crew Cab 4x4 SRW with the 7.3L PSD and 6-speed manual transmission. The rear-end ratio is 3.73:1 (with limited slip) and the truck will have the camper package and the trailer towing package. Does anyone have any info on fuel mileage (before and after break-in period) and what brand of 15W-40 oil is best? I plan to use Valvoline since I've been using it in my Expedition, but this will be the first diesel I've owned so I am kind of curious.

Wombat: congradulations on your "order". When is the real truck expected to arrive??? I've had mine a few weeks now and just put 1000 miles on it. I too have the 6 speed and I love it. It did take me a while to get used to the shifting pattern. My last truck was a 5 speed F150 V8. I was a little paranoid that I would accidently put it into R when I really wanted first. Ended up trying to take off in 3rd quite a few times. Guess what else I've found out?? You can put it into R or 1st and just let up on the clutch and it will go. YOu don't have to give it any fuel what so ever!!!
OK, to your questions: I've checked fuel milage and I'm getting around 18mpg. I haven't changed oil yet but I'm looking at using CAT oil, my husband works for CAT and gets a discount. I checked with Ford service and they seemed to think this oil would be OK. They did recomend that I go there to buy my oil filters. This is also my first diesel but I've gotta say, I'm loving it. I've just put in an order for a Superchip for it and can't wait for it to get here.
