Question V8, EFI, 5.4 Liter in the F-250 SD

Does anybody know or have a f-250 SD with the V8, EFI, 5.4 Liter? If so how is it?
Thinking about getting one.

This truck IMHO has to be the best designed vehicle I have ever owned from a construction, quality, design, and user maintenance standpoint. The exception is the cupholders. BFD !

Look at the signature and see what I have. I get 11.3MPG with a heavy foot and a 5800# truck. I'm really not complaining, it's not exactly a diesel Beetle, eh? The new 260HP may be better.

For MY use the 5.4L is fine. I do not tow regularly. I haul typical home stuff and PEOPLE regularly. I live in hilly/mountainous/terrible road construction Pennsylvania.

Sometimes the motor feels flat because the auto tranny always seeks 4th gear at 38MPH. Kind of a drag sometimes. I just keep it out of OD most of the time. A Superchip may help once I'm thouroghly convinced I will benefit from it.

Don't even consider a 3.55 rear unless you live in the plains. I have the 3.73.

Questions??
Ask away, I only give brutally honest answers.

The 260 horse version is supposed to be pretty good from what I hear. Ive seen a similar equipped truck like spaceace's {1999 F-250 SD Supercab, Long bed, 5.4 Liter} and it was pulling a bobcat on a trailer with no problems.

When I got mine, the V-10 was an additional $350. From other posts I've seen, I believe my V-10 gets better mileage then the V-8 5.4l.
I think the V-8 engine just has to work harder to move that big truck around.
I got mine for towing, so I never even considered the 5.4l. I just had to choose between the V-10 or the PSD.

Wink

No way J-C,
My truck is better than your truck! I get 100 MPG pulling a 5-ver up the PA mountains !

My V-8 just has to work more efficiently, converting all the fuel into HP. It doesn't rely on the cat to burn off the excess fuel !!!

Na na na, na na nah !

2hi4u,

Spaceace is right on. If you tow occasionally, this engine is ok in a crew cab 4x4. It really surprised me. Don't get it if you will tow every day (medium to heavy loads) or your job/work is towing things daily. Get the V10 or PStroke. Mine also is used mainly for my daily commute and for people. This truck is theeee most fun to drive and ride in. I've got a '99 F250 4x4 CrewCab, shortbed, 3.73 gears. It is the 235 HP 5.4. I wish it was the 260. Might be a little more torque. I average 12.7 mpg usually. Drops to around 10 pulling a 20' Champion bass boat when I get to go to the lake. The dog loves the drop down arm rest up front. He gets to look down on all the little trucks that we pass. Don't buy a Super Duty if your life revolves around how much money you spend on gas. If I were you, I'd get the V10.

J-C: Who told you that your V-10 got better mileage than the 5.4? Everyone who has one complains about mileage. I think that the V-10 is a bad-a** engine though. Specially for $350 more!

Cool

Thanks guys....I'm just going to use my truck for everyday use. I'm thinking of making it into a show truck. If I do pull anything it won't be everyday. (just some Z-71's and Dodge trucks..HAHAHAHAHA)
Call my dealer today to see the difference in prices......
