Cool 5.4L Piston Slap

Yes this problem exists in the Superduty line as well. I am having a new engine installed on Mon July 19/99. The only thing that I hate is that the engine now has over 20,000 miles on it and just now feels totally broken in. With the addition of the exhaust, air and computer mods it loves to rev and pulls pretty hard.Like to hear any experiences from others

99SDKT,

Has your engine done this since it was new or is this a new problem? If it is fairly new, at what mileage did you notice the slap?

Thanks,

Clif

What does piston slap sound like? I hear some type of noise when I gas mine, but alos just thought it was the new stlye engine. I have previously owned only Chevy's and had never heard this type of noise. Had a friend ask me one time what that noise was when accerating and I just said it was the "new Ford engine noise". Also are they putting in the 235hp motor in or the new 260hp motor?

Well the dealer does not seem to know much about my new engine except that its brand new. They figure that it should be identical HP to what it came with. The MFG date is 06/04/99, the engine is in now and it has the same power and pull that my old engine had after it had been broken in(10,000 mi). So if this engine gets more and more power and pull as it breaks in(like the old one did) I would opt to say its the 260hp version. I have not yet put my Superchip back as they were having problems trying to recalibrate my speedo and I have to take it back. To be quite honest it almost feels the same as when the chip was in on the old engine.
