Lbs Of Boost??

My Buddy has a 96 w/ a 7.3 (with mods) and he is putting out about 22 Lbs of boost from the turbo. Is this safe for the motor??? Whats the factory output??? Just wondering.

Thanks

Newer ones run up to about 26-28 lb's max. A few mods and you may get over 30. It being a 96, I'm not sure the same applies. Although, there are aftermarket turbo's etc. out there and I'm sure there are people making a lot more boost than that! 22 sounds about normal for a stock PSD though.

stock 7.3l intercooled around 17 psi, older non intercooled around 15

6.0l generally around 23 psi

Extra boost can cause premature cylinder wear from excessive piston ring pressure against cyl wall.

Aswell if you have the stock turbo housing with waste gate and you restrict the waste gate operation you are creating more heat as the waste gate actually increases exhuast flow.

I've also seen broken turbo shafts when guys are running excessive boost
