Looking at new F250 SD

I've found a 2003 with a 5.4 and a 2004 with V-10. For towing a trailer approx. 5000 lbs is the V-10 worth it? I will tow it in the mountains from time to time as well. I can get the 2003 for about $1000 less and they are really the same truck except for the engine. How about the difference in gas mileage between the 2 engines?

Thanks in advance!

I have a 2002 F-250 Superduty with the V-10. When pulling my gooseneck horse trailer, I dont even know its behind me. Definitely get the V-10. My gas mileage without trailer is 12 around town and 15 if I stay at 70. Never checked it with trailer.

Unless it's just a daily around town people hauler, I would go with the V10. Gas milage? Both will suck but at least with the V10, towing will be more pleasant.

Also, look at used trucks and see how much that $1000 difference grows between a preowned 5.4 vs. V10.

Go with the V-10 then you won't ever have that "Damn I could have had a V-10" thought run through you head. The gas mileage difference between the two is not much at all and the extra power difference is the cheapest, easiest power upgrade you can do.

At that price difference, definitely go with the '04 with the V10. Sure, you could tow that load with the 5.4, but why? At only $1000 difference you are getting more power, and a year newer truck.
