installing plow on super duty

I had recently purchased a new house with a long driveway approx. 400 feet long. I have a 2001 F-250 Super Duty Super Cab with 8 foot bed with a 7.3L diesel. I have been informed by a place that I was looking to buy a snowplow that Ford does not recomend a plow be used on my truck. Does anyone know why I cannot put one on my truck. Thank you.

According to Ford, the extra weight of the diesel engine, plus the snowplow weight, will overload the front axle/springs. Ford will only put the plow prep package on regular cab diesel trucks in the F-250 and F-350. I'm not too sure about the 450 and 550 models. That being said, there are more than a few people that put plows on diesel powered trucks in the Supercab configuration and they appear to have few/no problems. You may want to think twice about doing this if your truck is still under warranty. The factory puts the plow prep package on all F-250 and F-350 gas engine models. I've got an F-250 S/C with a V-10 and the plow package. The truck handles the plow like it's not even there. One more thing, the plow package springs are 6,000 # capacity. These are also found on the front of the F-450 4x4s also.

Here is what I heard:
You can get a plow on a F250 super cab shortbed, or a regular cab long bed. They won't put a plow on a CrewCab long bed, unless it's a F350 or better.
Mine has the extra weight capacity on the front, (says it on the door sticker) so I can have one. You can beef yours up, but it isn't legal unless it's on the door sticker.

Andthensometoo,
is that a F350 dually? because the F350 SRW is the same as the F250, except the tires...
Or maybe the front tires on F250 can't support the weight?

On the SRW F250's & F350's
the front end will handle the plow

It's when you add the plow & the plow manu. recommended amout of ballest the truck it self is over the GVWR

You'll be fine

For my gasser with a 8" western pro they recommend 800 pounds of ballest in the rear to off set the plow

I've never loaded up with ballest and have never had a problem
with traction or the handling ?

I checked
You can get the Plow pkg. with the F350 supercab in a long bed

And all F250 & F350's with the Diesel plow pkg are rated at
680 max. instead of the 750 for gassers

All the plow pkg. is, the X springs (rated at 6,000) and a steering
dampner
Still has the same front axle and brakes

If your's sag's allot just add tiberns, X springs or a leaf up front

i have talked to a couple guys that use their powerstroke for plowing and they work great. the only problem is the extra weight on the already HEAVY front end. i would reccomend some airbags, they work good

Yep, same thing almost happened to me with my 1999 SD V-10. Was going to order the crew, but could not get the snow plow package on that. Ordered the super cab instead.
