Question changing 6spd transmission fluid

Is this as simple as removing the plug and then filling through the side?

Hi Runnert

Did you figure it out? If so, forget this post

My old F250 with 5sp. had 2 plugs on side of tranny. One upper/one lower.

I assume same for you. First unscrew lower to drain..then unscrew top plug. If you unscrew top plug first..alittle fluid may/maynot run out? No biggie..but do remove top plug when draining.

Then just reverse...put bottom plug (bolt) in....fill thru top hole.
Now..this is the fun part...how to get it in there. In my case i had a small hand pump w/res. for fluid. Which just pumps it in.

I think someone here said they ran a small hose from the filler hole to up inside engine bay...put funnel in end of hose and poured tranny fluid in. Never done it that way...but seemed like a good idea.

Then just add the right/correct amount of new fluid. Before i used all that was called for...i would stick my little finger in the fill hole...if finger touched oil...well, you get the idea. Also could use bent Q tip or?

Hope that helps? Good luck...OT

OT got it...Dont forget to wipe the particles off the magnetic drain plug, you can use a pump, or I take the built in funnel and attach a hose in the qt jug and squeeze the bottle into the trans/diff..

If you are keeping the truck, dont forget the synthetics...
