Looking at 2000 and 99 Trucks Need Advise

I have owned F150's for some time now, and I am going after work to look at a F250 4x4 (2000 Model) Super Crew V8 (Gas) with 47K miles and the price is $24,900.00 and a 1999 F250 4x4 Super Crew V10 (Gas) 70K Miles for $21,900.00. Pros and Cons on either, I am towing a 28 foot box trailer with a 2000 pound Race Car. Would have loved to have found a diesel, but Gas seems to be what is on hand.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Justin

Some people are happy with the 5.4L V8 in their trucks and if it's geared right it might work just fine. I did have a '01 V10 and I liked the power and pulled a 7K# toybox and it did quite well. Now I have a '02 diesel and pull a 5er, and I dig it! I know what it's like to get the itch, but if you can hold out try looking around for a diesel and give it a spin. You might be happy that you did!

Well it depends on how much you plan to drive that thing. If you plan on driving it alot, I would go far away from the V10, cuz gas mileage on that isnt the best. BUt if using just for towing purposes, then get it. It will have alittle better towing capacity and more torque than the other. Too bad you cant get a diesel, I love mine. It gives you the best of both worlds, killer towing power with great gas mileage!..........peace

I would strongly suggest the V-10 ! Espciallly with towing. I really think you will be under powered with the V-8. SERIOUSLY!

I would also stay away from the v-8. I would suggest a diesel also, but they cost a lot more. I wouldnt worry about the v-10 sucking too much gas. My neighbor has one and it gets between 4-5 mpg better than my 460.

I agree with Superdutyspv, you wont like the towing with the 5.4. I have a 350 stake with v-10 and 430 gears and i pull a trailer weighing approx 5000 lbs and also have 550 gallons of water in tank on bed, with 1000lbs of supplies and it move right on down the road.

My 00 250 with v-10 pulled the same load but only 300 gallon of water and 500 lbs of material in bed and it had a 373 in it.

If you are doing alot of towing i would suggest the diesel. but just a few times go with the v-10.

v-8's are for the little guys................

Justin, words of advice, any towing get the V10 at least...Dud there is some major deals on diesel down here..used or new..with the prices you quoted you can get a diesel for that here...Guy I worked with just got a 2000 4X4 xtended cab 250 25000 miles $28000...which was way too much, I thought..Theres a diesel 4X4 99? CC for $23K...If you want me to find you one, just say the words...I can send u some email on prices...

I appreciate the words of advise! I settled on the F250 Super Duty Super Cab, 4 x 4 V10! I love it! Kinda sad to see my F150 go, but I am very happy with my V10. I would have loved to had a diesel, but the V10 sure makes up for it in my book. It is a daily driver as well as towing my race car, but I can live with the mileage. My 93 F150 4x4 V8 got 15 on the highway, so I am used to not passing service sations on long hauls!

Well, I guess I'll say good bye to the F150 group and change my handle!

Honey, I am HOME!

Thumbs up

Good looking truck. I think you made a wise choise. I traded a F150 Screw for a 250SDCC with the diesel and didn't regret it one bit. But, I just recently Traded for a 350CC dually. Great deals are out there if you look around. I don't think it was to bad 2000' with 42000 miles for $23,990.
THIS THING ROCKS

Mongo, after this thread started I have been looking at trucks, And these prices were high I thought...There are some deals out here in TRUCK LAND (TEXAS)...A dually..Man did you go big..Any mods to the engine yet...Tell us about the diesel...Does it pull...

craiggorski---Man, when you get ready let me know...I thought that was a bad price...I have connections...The great Heart of the State of Texas...The Austin area...These trucks are plentiful and are everywhere, hardly any Gassers...

We have a couple truck clubs here as well, as well as performance parts for the diesel...

That truck I saw just sitting at a car lot...I wasn't even looking until Justin brought up those prices...
