I had a '97 and '99 2WD 5.4 Expedition and went to my dealer to get new '03 and was told the Exps. only come with 3.73 final drive ratio. This sucks!
My last two Exp's had 3.31 and 5.4 which served my purpose perfectly. I don't drive off-road nor do I tow anything. Mostly long highway trips. The 3.31 still provided good power off the line but the biggest benefit was that I was turning about 2000 rpms at 70 mph and consistently got 20-22 mpg. This combination worked great for my needs and lenghtened the miles between fill-ups. As you know, filling up an Exp. is a PITA, especially the last 6-8 gallons.
I was hoping I could at least get a 3.55. NOT!
Anyone know why Ford decided to drop the gear options? This is definitely affecting my decision to buy another Exp.

The Expy gained about 400 lbs with the '03 model year changes and needs them 3.73 gears to help it get out of its own way.

You can always install taller tires to lower you effective gear ratio, it will throw your speedometer of a bit but who cares
