Question Roof rack paint

I posted this question on the "other body' board and received no answers/suggestions so I thoght I would try here.

I have a 1999 Expedition, the roof rack cross members need to be painted. The factory paint is starting to bubble. These members seem to be aluminum. What is the best paint to use on these. Also what about prep?

You might want to call up a local Powder Coating company and see what they would charge for it. Powder Coating is very durable and would last forever. Another alternative is to get some paint at the hardware store such as Rustoleum and spray it yourself. Make sure you clean, sand and prime before you paint for a longer lasting job. This would probably be under $10.00 for materials, but youwould probably have to do it more often. Might be cheaper in the long run by spending a little more on powder coating. Good luck on your project.

Bob,

Are you out of warranty? I also have a 99 that had the same problem. Went to the dealer, he took pictures and got an okay for replacement.
