shift kits
It's been a while since I've been to the site. What is the general consensus about shift kits? I'm not putting a Superchip in it, but would like to quicken and firm up the somewhat lazy 1-2 shift. In addition, has anyone noticed that even under WOT, when it shifts to 2nd, the converter locks up fairly quickly and it losses it's umph. I tried pulling the gear shift back to 1st after the 1-2 shift and it made quite a difference. The trans can't lock up. I waited until it locked up in 2nd before I pulled it back down just to be shure I wouldn't end up in 1st gear again. BTW, I haven't made this a habit as it probably can't be all that great for the tranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Shif Kit
One of the better mods you can make. I have a '98 and the factory shift is very mushy and weak. Had a Transgo installed and it made a huge difference. Shifts are now firm and crisp. Something that I did not regret spending money on.
Do you have the 4R100 trans? There is a shift kit for the Lightnings that is very easy to install. $200 (factory tech) and all you do is swap out the accumulator vavle body. That way you can always remove it if you sell the vehicle or need trans repair work still under warranty. My Expy has the 4R100 trans in it but I haven't done anything to it. I have a 2000 Expy with 2wd. I have installed the Transgo shift kit in my Lightning because the factory tech kit wasn't on the market at the time. I installed the factory tech kit in my buddies Lightning and it is a breeze to do.
