I have a 1998 Expedition 4x4 which has awd. On ice well in awd as I accelerate I hear a clunking sound coming from the front. Is that normal? I know its switching from 2wd to 4wd, but is it always that rough? If something is wrong, then do you know what it is.

I would not worry too much, Their will always be a little noise. If it is bothering you too much, have it checked. As long as you have been keeping up with proper maintnace you should be fine.
