Question Different question

Hey Rich-
I don't know where to purchase a good locking cap for our 2000 Expy's, but I'll keep an eye out for the answer.

I noticed we have a number of upgrades in common, and I was wondering about the billet grill. I installed only the large upper grill on mine, and was dam* confused about how they would install the lower grill. Can you shed any light on that? Are you happy with both?

Thanks in advance...

Ford makes a very nice locked gas cap with the Ford logo on it. I have one on my Expy.

Very nice touch.

I bought one from Ford too. Seems no one else has a locking cap for the Expy.

locking fuel cap

OK. Did some research on locking fuel caps for the X. Here is what I found. The jist of it is we don't have a lot of options for
securing one of our most precious commodities. gas.

I found this on spytech.net.
>Gas Cap Pick
>Specially designed tool will open any locking gas cap. Great for >emergency spare key.
>Price: $9.00

Wow! That stinks. I called around and it really does work on every locking gas cap out there. It seems like they all use the same manufacturer (made in China) for the lock tumbler.

So I was thinking to myself......

I bought the Billet Stainless Steel Gas cap on ebay for 97$. And
then I bought a Medco (very high quality) Stainless Steel Cam lock for 35 bucks (5 pin pick proof tumbler). I'm going to drill a hole in the Fuel door and install the cam lock so it locks the door
completly from the outside. Hope to do it this weekend. Will update with Pics if it works. I'm also going to use tamper resistant SS screws to install the fuel door instead of the hex heads that came with it.

Here is the link to the Medo Cam Lock.

What does everyone think? Am I going too far?

Rich

I guess I'm wondering why the interest in the locking gas cap? Have you had problems with gas being stolen?

Just curious....

It's hard enough getting gas in the tank (especially the last 5-6 gallons) much less getting it out. I've tried to syphon gas for my lawn mower and it was very difficult. I wouldn't worry too much about getting gas stolen.
I used to have a diesel vehicle and some neighbor kids stole what they thought was gas and put it in their parents car to go joy riding. Needless to say they didn't get far.

Haven't had any problems yet, just trying to be proactive. All my other cars have covers that lock when you lock the car doors. The X is the only one that is wide open for people to mess with.
The whole mod will cost be about $140, we'll see how it goes.
I'm more concerned with somebody putting something in the gas cap then stealing gas.

Hasn't anyone seen the movie Breakdown?

Sure would like to see that. I want one of those billet gas doors, I think it would add something to my truck.
