How to tow with Expedition?

I have a 2001 EB Expedition with tow package and air suspension.
It came with two relays - trailer tow relay and trailer tow bat.chg relay.

I need to pull a boat without electric brakes.

Do I need to install these relays if I don't have electric brakes?

It says something in the manual about turning off air suspension, hooking up trailer, and then turning back on.

Do I need to do this?
I'm not sure what load leveling hitch is?

What you're towing has a lot to do with it. I tow (see link in sig) a boat that will weigh anywhere from 7000-7200 pounds generaly. The tandem axle trailer has surge brakes so I connect the wiring for the lights and I'm off.

Be sure to buy a ball mount and ball that is rated for what you are towing. I use a 10k # mount and 8k# ball. Not aleways easy to find but eTrailer is not a bad place to get them, and priced right.

A weight distributing hitch is a set up you'd buy that, well, before I butcher the description, go to someone like Reese, Drawtite or Putnam (there are others) to read up on them. They basicly distibute the weight of the trailer more evenly on the tow vehicle. It keeps you in much better control.

By the way, mine does wonderfull towing. The things I've done to it I'm sure have helped quite a bit.

Good luck and welcome to the site!!

I have 17 ft boat.
Probably 2500 lbs, 20 years old.
Will I need to install the two relays?

Just put them both in. It doesn't hurt anything. We tow a 26ft travel trailer once a year. I mount the electric brake modulator securily and we tow. Couldn't be more simpler.

The part about turning off the suspension is just for adjusting weight distributing bars - if you don't have them, you can skip that step.
