Need help with Y pipe adapter ,

need to replace my muffler , shop says for me to put on a flex pipe, I don't have a flex pipe why should I want it.

the say

flange
get adapter for the Y pipe with flange so they can weld it on the y pipe. see attached pic nothing wrong with my flange /y pipe ,only thing bad are the bolts rusted.
told them drill out the old bolts , he said cant do that dont have tools ! really WTF !

 

Federal regs and state regs are pretty stiff on this....simply, you can't use a flex pipe in place of a rigid pipe......

Find a better shop. Should take about 5 minutes to blow those rusty bolts out with a torch.

 

Go to a different shop.

A professional exhaust shop should actually carry inventory, and know what they need to do to correct your situation. They could cut 2" past the flange, then weld on a connection. Or, they could simply source the right part. Exhaust parts are not a mystery. It is just a pipe. A shop should have a distributor that they can call, give them size and fitting requirements, and have one delivered within an hour by a parts runner.

I actually laughed looking at the picture...if you tap on those rusty bolts they would probably fall apart...hacksaw at the worst in 2 minutes. Easy fix - go to a better shop...RUN..don't walk!

Any halfway decent muffler shop should be able to fix it correctly without you having to chase parts.

If the shop knows what they are doing, they should be able to call their distributor and get whatever is needed. It's not your job to source parts. That is what you are paying them to do.
