Unhappy Power Seat Ghost

My driver side power seat seams to change adjustment all by itself and I have to re-adjust everytime I get in... at first I thought I was dragging my leg across the buttons on entry and exit, but after being careful of this it still is driving me wacky.

Does anyone else have this problem? I thought about disconnecting the wire from the tilt/angle motor, but their all driven through the same wire harness/plug and my wife would blow a gasket if she counldn't adjust the distance to the wheel.

Ghost in the machine.... help.

Power seat ghost

Kind of spooky huh?

Well, their is a really easy answer for you on this one. I assume you have the keyless entry option and memory power seats. You should have button 1 and button 2 on the arm rest. Your power seat memory is tied into your remote control. Every time you push the unlock button on the remote, it will position your seat according to how it was set up by the memory.

First you need to determine if the remote is tied in with memory 1 or 2. You can do this by changing the memory settings. Adjust your seat however you like it and then push the set button and then memory 1 (you don't have to hold the set button down). Now, readjust your seat differently. Push your remote control entry button and see if your seat goes back to the way you set it. If it doesn't, then that remote is set up for memory 2. Easy fix. Readjust your seat how you like it and push the set button and then memory 2. Your seat should return to YOUR position. If you have two remotes, the other remote should be keyed into the other memory position. This is a great feature where you and your spouse can have seperate remotes and seperate seat adjustments. Oh yeah, one other thing, the mirror is also tied into the memory so make sure your mirror is adjusted to how you like it.

One more hint. Their is a third memory option that most people don't realize. This can be accomplished by holding both the 1 and 2 button simultaneously. Hope this solves your problem and good luck.

kind of funny

It took my wife and I a couple of months of adjusting the seats, pedals, mirrors etc. every time we go into the Expy to realize there was a difference in the remotes. One is set to Position 1 and the other to Position 2. Did not realize it until she was driving the Expy with my keys on vacation and she never had to adjust anything on the stops we made going to the beach.

Made us feel stupid ...

That's not it... no memory seat option.

We don't have the memory seat option.... Just a lowly old XLT.... not even leather seats.

Just to be sure... when does the seat adjust with the keyless entry... when you first unlock the door or just after you open the door?

I think it's when you unlock it. I usually am getting in about the time the pedels are adjusting.

Hmmmmm?

The memory seats only work on the unlock button of the remote control. What I would do, is open the door and push the unlock button and see if the seat moves, and see if it moves back to the same spot evrytime after adjustment. If it does, I would suspect that maybe the seat that was installed( it may have been replaced at one time) was from a rig that had the memory seat option, but doesn't have the memory controls hooked up. The remote switch maybe the only control for this. I'm not sure, but the memory module may be in the seat motor mechanism. If this doesn't work, then I would definitely look at having an excorcism performed on your Expedition.

checked the remote

I checked the remote out like you said... nothing happened.
I must be hitting the buttons in other ways or something.
I'll have to make some type of guard for the bottons if nothing else works..
thanks for the help.

Since this thread has to do with haunting and ghosts, I'm bringing it back to life! I just wanted to thank NaviMan. I'm new to the Expy world and this thread solved my problem that wasn't a problem. It's funny that I came upon this thread by searching for "haunted ghost expedition"
