I have a 4.6l and when I drove to work which is 6 to 7 miles away it stalled and I was able to start back up but it turned over hard and just made it to a parking lot now after it cools off it starts fine but drive 6 to 7 mile it does the same thing .it only had 80000 miles on it.I'm thinking it's the catalytic converter .thinking about pull cat off put a straight pipe to see if that's the problem.or would an oil pump going motor not ticking or knocking

Do a fuel pressure test first. It could be a bunch of crap in the filter that gets stirred up when you start driving. The pressure test is a whole lot easier than monkeying with the cats. Plus if the cats were plugged then it would run like a slug as soon as you start driving.

 

If you drive it too much with the engine missing, you will screw up the cats.

It was running normal not missing . I had a car that did same thing when it got warm and stall and had to wait to cool down to restart .that i took it in and cost a lot and this was back in the 80's

 

A cracked coil can do that too (make it die when it's warm). I believe your vehicle has 2 coil packs, not the separate 8 COP's.

The way that works is if the coil is cracked it lets moisture in. When it's cold it is the same as the outside humidity. But when the coil warms up the moisture will condense and short out the coil. After it cools then all is good until the coil warms up again.

I had a dirt bike back in the 70's that did that to me and I just about junked it before I figured it out.

Adding to this thread instead of starting a new one. My 01 Navigator 5.4 with 183k miles has an issue with "almost" stalling. After heavy braking then immediately pressing the accelerator, the tach will sometimes drop to 200 or 300 then back up above 1k and runs fine. For example, traveling at 55 to 60 mph, start braking to make a 90 degree right turn. Let off the brakes and press the accelerator while turning and the near stall occurs. I can almost predict when it will happen. Already replaced the IAC and recently a new fuel pump that failed. Considering replacing the vacuum rubber connectors, elbows, etc. as my next step. I'm thinking vacuum leak. Suggestions or ideas?
